All eyes are on CBSE now after Maharashtra and Gujarat state boards have decided to postpone the state board exams

All eyes are on CBSE now after Maharashtra and Gujarat state boards have decided to postpone the state board exams. With many schools still closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it is expected that CBSE will also make an official announcement for postponing the CBSE board exams which are taken by lakhs of students across India in February-March.

CBSE had hinted back in October that the board exams might be postponed by 45-60 days in 2021 depending on the situation and a reduction in the CBSE board exam syllabus for 2021 was announced as well. It is highly likely that both the national education boards of CBSE and CISCE will make an official announcement regarding postponed board exams very soon.

                   Many schools still closed

The central government has allowed schools in non-containment zones to open in phases, with reduced attendance and all Covid-19 safety protocols in place since October 15. However, the decision has been left to the state governments.

A few states have decided to reopen schools while following certain protocols. However, since the Covid-19 situation is still not normalised yet, there can be a spike in coronavirus cases once schools reopen.

A similar situation was witnessed in Andhra Pradesh where Covid-19 cases spiked among teachers and students once schools reopened in the state.

States such as Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Kerala which have a large number of CBSE schools are yet to announce a school reopening date. And the CBSE board exams 2021 cannot be held without a minimum of at least three months’ worth of physical classes, as per teachers.

                 CBSE Datesheet 2021 awaited

CBSE usually announces the datesheet for the board exams in November but it has not been released yet. Students and teachers are now waiting for the same to alleviate their anxieties and go ahead with the board exam preparation.

It is expected that the CBSE board exams 2021 will be held in may and the official CBSE datesheet is expected to be announced soon. The education ministry would also most likely make an announcement regarding the academic calendar 2020-21.

Maharashtra and Gujarat postpone board exams

State boards have started to make announcements regarding their plans for board exams 2021.

Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad confirmed in November that the Maharashtra board exams 2021 for both classes 10 and 12 would be impossible to conduct before May 2021. Th estate has decided to reopen schools from November 23.

The Gujarat state government decided to hold the GSEB board exams 2021 in May instead of February-March.

Andhra Pradesh has hinted that the intermediate exams would be shifted to April instead of February; an official announcement is expected.

Board exams 2021 may soon be postponed by Uttar Pradesh and Telangana as well.

Many states could even be waiting for an official announcement from CBSE before they make decisions regarding their state board exams.
